The Truman Show

“We accept the reality of the world with which we are presented”.

“The Truman Show” is a movie that is about a man called Truman, whose entire life had been a live, non-stop, and unedited television show. The film features Jim Carrey as the protagonist who has lived in an entirely artificial world created by the producers of a program. In this world, everybody is aware of the fact that everything is fake, except for Truman. This was because Truman had been brought up to this “artificial world” at a very young age, and therefore is the only world that he had ever been presented to. As a result of this, everything about this artificial world became the “reality” for Truman.

Throughout the entire movie, the most remarkable and significant quote is certainly when the producer said, “we accept the reality of the world with which we are presented”. This was a very interesting and noteworthy phrase as it got me thinking about things that I hadn’t before. The quote got me thinking about certain ideas such as the fact that people’s sense of “reality” may just be their perspectives of the world. Another important idea that I was able to learn from this movie is that people are molded and shaped by how they are brought up and presented to the world.
