Introduction to Theory of Knowledge

The first classes of Theory of Knowledge allowed students to get an overall outlook of the course, and understand what the class is all about. In addition, students were also presented to basic information and knowledge regarding the course, and also discussed the different “ways of knowing”, and “how” we can know things. These conversations involved some in-depth thinking on what knowledge is, and what we perceive to be knowledge. By the end of the first couple of lessons, I began to realize that there are multiple definitions as to what knowledge is, and that the most commonly used definition that the IB uses is that knowledge is defined as a “justified true belief”. It has also come to my attention that there are many different “ways of knowing”, and some of which include emotion, language, sense perception, and reason. The first couple of lessons of Theory of Knowledge have certainly been a new and different experience to me. Throughout the classes, there were definitely certain ideas and concepts that I found difficult to understand and comprehend with, but overall the first experiences of the course has been an interesting and unique one.
